FROM THE PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Dear graduates, colleagues, friends, and supporters:

It is with great pride and affection that I welcome you to our 10th anniversary celebration and graduation. As I think of the 5 years that I have been with the HCI program, I am in awe of our founders, and excited about current progress and development. I congratulate each of you for the role you have had in helping our communities achieve linguistic and cultural access to healthcare. This program has more than doubled in its reach:- to the community - we recently had 240 people attend our orientation (all potential students); to students - we now have two classes per year; to linguistic groups - we now trained at least 7 different language groups yearly; and to clinical service providers - we now have 13 training sites for internship placement. But most importantly, the quality of our graduates has also increased greatly. Now employers and providers alike look forward to working with interpreters who are ethically aware, linguistically accurate, and culturally competent. Our communities who communicate best in languages other than English: men, women, girls, boys, babies and elders will experience the relief of being able to express themselves and understand their healthcare providers. I look forward to continuing the effort to grow and improve the CCSF HCI program, and to working with all of you in the future.

Nora Goodfriend-Koven MPH
